Family Finding Specialist

Job Summary: Responsible for helping foster care case planners achieve permanency, safety and well-being for children on their caseload by discovering lost family/supportive adult connections and engaging those connections in permanency planning.  Must be willing to work flexible hours in order to accommodate the needs of family/supportive adults.

Essential Functions

  • Attend Family Finding Model trainings and other trainings related to best practices for building a supportive family network for children in foster care
  • Use the Family Finding Model to identify, locate and track relatives and other supportive adults for children in foster care
  • Engage identified family members/supportive adults in permanency planning for the child
  • Receive consultation from Family Finding Model experts
  • Create desk aids and other training materials for case planners to improve their own family finding practices and train case planners on the use of those materials
  • Perform all other related tasks

Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in social work or a related field
  • A minimum of one-year experience working in child welfare (foster care experience preferred)
  • Excellent communication, planning, organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Comfort traveling throughout NYC
