Family Child Care Specialist, Early Childhood Family Day – Bronx, NY

The Family Child Care Specialist will assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive child development program for children enrolled in a Family Child Care setting. This is a Full Time, unionized position (DC 1707 and Local 205) in the Bronx; comprehensive union benefits package including medical, dental, life, vision, prescription, and pension plan.

 Essential Functions:

  • Recruits and screens new Family Child Care Homes; Recruits and screens new CACFP provider Homes; Refers children for placement in Family Child Care homes; Conducts Meal Monitoring visits
  • Processes applications; Determines eligibility status; Conducts screening of children admitted, as well as ongoing assessments
  • Assists Family Child Care Providers in the planning and implementation of age appropriate activities; Refers families to needed community services
  • Provides technical support and ensure FCC home quality through the use of a researched based assessment tool; Monitors FCC homes for compliance with health, safety and other standards
  • Assists in maintaining updated medicals on children enrolled in the program; Ensures the timely completion of all reports
  • Participates in all team conferences, parent group meetings and workshops
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A High School Diploma is required, with a minimum of two years of experience in early childhood education or child welfare; A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Services or related field is strongly preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other industry related technologies
  • Candidates who are bilingual in English/Spanish or French are a plus

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30 lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms. As a day care worker, providing quality care for children will require a high degree of physical exertion. Must have the ability to lift and hold children, sit down on the floor and stand up frequently and walk quickly around the classroom. In addition due to the high level of energy in the clients during all physical activities and outings, must be able to run, play, and travel with the children. Physical and PPD clearance required.
