Job Summary: The Assistant Program Director provides assistance and support to the Program Director with the day to day management and operation of the after school program.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with day-to-day operation and administration of afterschool, summer camp and holiday programming 
  • Communicates with school administration, staff, and parents as needed
  • Provides support to program director, and provides leadership in the absence of program director during funder site visits, Department of Health audits, DYCD program visits
  • Reviews performance of staff and provides suggestions, coaching, and assistance in the improvement of their work 
  • Creates lessons lans and co- facilitates activities with group leaders/activity specialists  
  • Steps in for activity specialists and group leaders when groups do not have appropriate staffing
  • Assists with staff development and program development to meet the needs of the school and  community, in contract compliance, and within budgetary parameters
  • Supervises staff and participants and in alignment with agency, program, school and regulatory guidelines that relate to systems that dictate policies and procedures
  • Ensures all program spaces and supplies are secure, and ensures overall program safety and compliance with funding and regulatory agencies
  • Attends and co-facilitates  weekly staff meeting and completes professional development hours indicated at the time of hiring
  • Inputs data, such as registration forms, attendance, activity sheets into an online database
  • Takes inventory on program supplies, office supplies, first aid supplies
  • Assists in the booking of venues and transportation for Holiday Program Field Trips
  • Performs additional duties/projects as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Covid-19 vaccination
  • Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Human Services, Recreation or a related field  Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • At least three years of experience working with youth including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work
  • Prior experience supervising staff in a management role within an afterschool or camp setting 
  • Experience with Department of Youth and Community Development Online database (DYCD Connect) is a plus
  • Ability to handle multi-faceted tasks, effective communication, group management and conflict resolution skills 
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor, with a team-oriented attitude 
  • Classroom Management, Behavior Management, Positive Youth Development Skills 
  • Organized, self-motivated, with excellent time management skills, and the ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure 
  • Team First Attitude & Ability to motivate staff and participants 
  • A strong leadership and community service background is a plus 
  • Computer savvy (database and attendance tracking, outreach and program scheduling), with excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills 

Shift: 2pm-6pm during school year, 8am-6pm in summer Mon-Fri

Salary: $21/hr

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
