Sheltering Arms is currently seeking a Home Based MH Therapist with expertise and experience to provide therapeutic support to the foster families of teens and the foster children in those homes.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse populations and the ability to exercise good judgments in emergency situations.


Essential Functions:

  • Support foster parents in improvement and management of children/youth’s emotional and behavioral issues through use of program specific evidence informed treatment model(s)
  • Develop and implement strength based treatment plans to address children/youth’s response to trauma
  • Sees child/youth and foster family on an intensive basis(at a minimum weekly) in the home and community consistent with child’s therapeutic treatment goals
  • Provides a positive role model for children/youth; maintains a relationship conducive to the nurturing and developmental needs of children/youth and works with the foster parent to provide a living situation to help meet those needs. Uses knowledge and understanding of diverse cultural norms and child rearing practices to enhance the assessment and treatment process
  • As indicated, coordinate with child/youth’s mental health provider to monitor provision of  psychotherapy and psychiatry
  • Provide timely and effective crisis intervention which includes after hours crisis intervention coverage
  • Create and implement a support group for Foster Parents of Teen
  • Participate in Family Team conferences
  • Participate in other meetings with families as required
  • Participate in team meetings for the teen unit
  • Provide support for the PYA workshop
  • Completion of case documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with ACS and SACFS standards
  • Other related task that may be assigned



  • Licensed Masters Degree in Social Work; LMSW required
  • Experiencing working with youth and families in a mental health and child welfare setting preferred
  • Experienced in the provision of DBT preferred
