Sheltering Arms is currently seeking to hire a Homefinder to work in close cooperation with the Director of Homefinding and Intake in recruiting, training and certifying new resource parents willing to provide permanency for our foster children especially for teens and/or sibling groups and for special needs children through adoption. The emphasis is to identify foster and adoptive parents and who are willing to work with birth parents and support their continued involvement in all aspects of the child’s life.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct community outreach to recruit new foster and adoptive foster parents
  • Follow up on all inquiries from prospective foster parents
  • Attend Community Partnership Initiative meetings in Bronx and Manhattan
  • Conduct orientations for prospective foster parents
  • Attend recruitment events at ACS and in the community
  • Train prospective resource parents as per ACS, OCFS & SHELTERING ARMS requirements (MAPP and Deciding Together) and provide ongoing parent education
  • Inspect resource homes to ensure that the home is physically safe for children and meets all City, State, and Agency regulations for Certification.
  • Expedite home certifications and assist the resource parents to obtain necessary documents
  • Complete home study and recertification protocols every month as per guidelines provided
  • Conduct clearances for household members of resource
  • Verify 3 personal references, income, employment, health, etc with supporting documents
  • Manage and maintain resource home in Connections
  • Meet regularly with foster care units to provide homefinding related trainings and updates
  • Perform other duties as delegated

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required; bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Previous experience in child welfare or related field preferred
  • Good leadership qualities and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of sheltering Arms.
