Sheltering Arms' largest day care, the Harriet Tubman Early Childhood Education Center in the South Bronx is a state of the art facility that boasts features such as a gym, auditorium, and advanced learning technology in every classroom. Serving working families in the community, this center meets a growing need for high quality, affordable early education, and adds to our widely reputed Early Childhood program.

Sheltering Arms is proud to announce the expansion of the Harriet Tubman center with the opening of a brand new Early Head Start Program! The Early Head Start program provides both center-based and homebased services in the community for expecting families, and children under the age of 3. The Program offers free child development activities and educational programs for eligible children and families through ACS-contracted Early Head Start programs, which are designed to provide the skills necessary to thrive academically, socially, and physically. Children's mental health and well-being are a major component of the program. Children are screened for developmental and social/emotional delays, with on-going assessments serving as a foundation for individualization of lesson plans and developmental activities.

Sheltering Arms is currently seeking a Health Services Coordinator in our new Early Head Start Program at the Harriet Tubman Center.  The HSC will be responsible for building positive relationships with the children and their families, ensuring the health of the child/ren, including conducting medical intake, working with the children’s physicians, and maintaining case records. This is a full time position in the South Bronx; comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, vision, prescription, and pension plan.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building responsive, trusting relationships with each child in their care; assisting families to assume primary responsibility for their child’s health care through the selection of appropriate health care providers and resources; and providing parents/families with community resources and referrals
  • Maintaining medical/dental records; data tracking; log all service rendered to the program
  • Reviewing medical/dental forms to ensure that all information is recorder and that participant’s physician/dentist has conducted the necessary examination for entrance into the program; ensuring immunizations are up-to-date
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma + Nursing Program, with and 2+ years of experience is required; A Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services or related field preferred
  • LPN required
  • Prior experience working with pediatric populations, especially early childhood
  • Bilingual/Spanish preferred; Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
