Sheltering Arms is seeking a Teacher's Assistant to work closely with the group teacher to plan and execute a program to provide day care for children that takes into account the: educational, social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.  By providing a vast array of support to the classroom, the Assistant Teacher plays in integral role in the education of each child

Essential Functions

  • To assist classroom Teacher/Infant/Toddler Specialist in the implementation of daily classroom activities and the care of children 6 mos. – 3 years old in the program.
  • To build responsive trusting relationships with each child in their care.
  • To provide support to parents in their role as primary caregiver.
  • To plan and evaluate a program that supports and monitors children’s growth and development through the individualization of goals and objectives within the framework of an approved Infant/Toddler Curriculum.
  • To ensure the safety, health and wellness of children in the program.
  • To participate in training to expand skills and knowledge
  • Maintain accurate case records to meet the Early Head Start Standards
  • To be ethical in all dealings with children, families and community representatives.
  • To respect the privacy and confidentiality of children and parents.
  • Performs other duties as delegated



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, CDA or AA with emphasis in Infancy-Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Prior experience working with young children 6 months-Kindergarten.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30 lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
