Sheltering Arms is seeking a Juvenile Counselor Supervisor  who will be responsible for assuring that Juvenile Specialists are compliant with the daily routine and structure of the facility during the shift of duty and responsible for maintaining agency standards of quality care and service provision for the youth residing within the facility. The Juvenile Counselor Supervisor will supervise all Juvenile Specialist and Cook staff, their deployment and activities, uphold the daily programming, routines, discipline, program structure, and tone in order to support the Integrated Treatment Model.

 

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the supervision of all on-site staff and residents.
  • Maintain order, safety and security standards of the home.
  • Uphold daily living routines, schedules, and procedures through supporting Juvenile Specialist staff.
  • Mediate conflict, whether between staff or residents.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely fashion, including incident reports.
  • Must be able  to carry out all of the duties and functions of a Juvenile Specialist 
  • Support the Site Director through informal supervision and by providing staff with ongoing feedback.
  • Maintains and reviews log books, behavior assessment reports, and other relevant documentation to ensure the accuracy of those who completed it.
  • Manage residents' behavior utilizing the principles of the Integrated Treatment Model with the goal teaching the young people to make positive, lasting changes in their behavior.
  • Ensure high standard of sanitary conditions throughout the house including heavy cleaning and laundry.                                       
  • Participate in the planning and execution of educational, recreational, and personal enrichment activities.                          
  • Participate in ongoing meetings, conferences, training programs as required.                                             
  • Communicates frequently with Site Director, Assistant Director of ARC, Case Planners, and support staff regarding pertinent information about residents.
  • Responsible for providing safe transportation for residents and attending various appointments (including driving residents to and from school, medical appointments, and off-site family visits).
  • Attend all mandatory training required by ACS, DOE, OCFS and the Agency.
  • Responsible for adhering to all ACS, DOE OCFS and agency regulations.  
  • Uphold rules, repertoire of responses, confrontation techniques, application of the restriction system, negotiating restrictions, Force Fields; utilization of Safe Crisis Management techniques when necessary.
  • Manage the peer group, understands peer group dynamics, promotes and maintains a positive peer group culture.
  • Attention to and support of medical issues, student educational/vocational needs, casework, clinical appointments, etc. 
  • Provides documentation of supervision by maintaining a supervisory log for all staff supervised.
  • Schedules and maintain daily maintenance of agency vehicles
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma + 5 Years of Experience working with Juvenile Populations Required; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory, leadership, or administrative role.
  • Must have excellent  verbal and written communication skills in order to maintain required documentation 
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and youth development, and trauma-informed perspective
  • Ability to travel to all five boroughs
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Sheltering Arms Children and Family Services
  • Must be able to pass required Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and pass recertification on an annual basis.
