Sheltering Arms is seeking a Teacher's Assistant for our Paul's House Early Learn Center. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the group teacher to plan and execute a program to provide day care for children that takes into account the: educational, social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.  By providing a vast array of support to the classroom, the Assistant Teacher plays in integral role in the education of each child.


Essential Functions:

  • Assists with all activities that take part in the center
  • Assists with all program activities, including off-site trips
  • Works within the framework of the day care center, carries out its functions, policies and procedures
  • Assists in the planning and execution of an education enriched day care program
  • Keeps equipment and material accessible and in good condition in addition to removing all hazardous material. 
  • Participates in planning the use of community resources for educational enrichment
  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled classroom conferences and parent meetings
  • Participates in related training opportunities as they become available
  • Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with parents
  • Respects confidential nature of all information about parents and children
  • Writes records concerning the development of the program and children’s progress.
  • Takes responsibility for the classroom in the group teacher’s absence
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education required; Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred OR High School Diploma + CDA attained.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with children
  • Completed or are in the process of obtaining the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office
  • First Aid and CPR trainings required and recertified as needed
