Sheltering Arms is seeking to hire a Adoption Expeditor for our Foster Care and Adoption Unit. The Adoption Expeditor needs to have dedication to work in a professional, client-centered environment that embraces Children Services’ Improved Outcomes for Children (IOC) initiative. Ability to function within the context of the Family Team Conference model to review adoption permanency-planning goals, achieving finalization and ensuring the overall safety, growth and development of every child, placed in the care of Sheltering Arms Children and Family Services.

 

Duties:

  • Intervene with the courts, pre-adoptive parents, adoption attorneys, ACS subsidy unit or any other entity that would unnecessarily delay or impede the finalization of an adoption.  
  • Assist in securing birth, death, marriage certificates and other required documentation to facilitate filing of the adoption.
  • Manage a caseload of 15-20 children and provide needed services until adoption finalization
  • Complete adoption homestudies as required by the department
  • Compose and process adoption summaries and addendums as necessary, adoption subsidy applications, clearance forms, fingerprinting reports and medical reports for children and foster parents.
  • Collaboratively work with pre-adoptive foster parents to facilitate the adoption process.  This includes a face-to-face meeting at the beginning of the adoption process, availability for questions or concerns, and the co-leading of the Adoption Support Group.
  • Work collaboratively with the adoption attorneys to help expedite the agency’s adoption cases.
  • Establish a network of aftercare services appropriate for adoptive parents
  • Responsibility for all closing and appropriate storage of adoption case records.
  • Work collaboratively with Quality Improvement (QI) to identify trends and be guided by collected data to expedite adoptions and enhance services. Coordinate and maximize the use of internal and external resources to support quality service delivery

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required.  MSW preferred.
  • At least two years case planning experience in working with adoptions and in Child Welfare
  • Must have a comprehensive and functional knowledge of Children Services and OFCS initiatives Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage in duties requiring longer than a regular 7 hour work day on occasion. 
  • Proficiency in Connections, Microsoft Access, Excel and Word.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
