Social Work Supervisor

Job Summary

The Social Work Supervisor will provide effective oversight and case management to the three case planners in our Hard-to-Place Group Homes by providing quality services in the areas of leadership, supervision, case reviews and monitoring, progress note reviews, and advocacy for our teens in care in order to meet and exceed expectations with respect to program goals, quality services, compliance, and best practices.


Essential Functions

Provide effective ongoing weekly supervision feedback to staff who report to Social Work Supervisor.  Maintain documentation of supervision through the completion of supervisory logs.

Regularly review all progress notes, permanency hearing reports, court reports, FASPs, and other relevant documentation to ensure full compliance, quality, and best practices in services provided to group home youth.

Review and ensure completion of all internal agency reports and notifications by case planners.

Attend weekly treatment team meetings and collaborate with both the milieu staff and clinical staff to ensure high quality coordination and provision of services to youth.

Set high expectations and enforce strict deadlines for staff to ensure excellence in all areas.

Monitor all components of FTC meetings including challenges, goals, and actions. Attend FTC meetings as needed.

Collaborate with agency departments to meet program goals and objectives including the HR, Training and QI Departments in the areas of performance management, interviewing, mandated training, professional development, and QI goals.

Attend family court and criminal court dates as needed.

Ensure that records are accurate and complete in compliance with city, state, & agency regulations

Other related task that may be assigned



Masters Degree in Social Work or related field required

3 years of experience in the field of child welfare, residential care, and family services required

2 years of experience as a supervisor in child welfare, or 5 years of stepwise progression

Experience working with adolescent populations and high need clients preferred

Strong knowledge of city, state, and agency regulations and child welfare policies and procedures.

Strong knowledge of Connections

Exceptional verbal and writing skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Must be able to pass required Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training

NYS Driver’s License preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
