Sheltering Arms is looking for a Family Day Worker for the Early Childhood Education program in the Bronx. The Family Worker will  provide a comprehensive range of services to children in Family Child Care homes, their families and providers of Family Child Care services. The Family Worker will participate in committees related to the development of agency programs and/or services in the Family Day Program, and will represent the agency through community outreach. This is a Full time unionized position (DC 1707 and Local 205) available in the Bronx; comprehensive union benefits package (medical, dental, life, vision, prescription, and pension plan) included.

Essential Functions:

  • Implements Family Child Care educational programming; assists in the transfer process of FCC children to UPK programs; assists in the referral process of children for Early Intervention and CPSE
  • Determines initial and re-enrollment eligibility for the Family Day program and all related procedures related enrollment
  • Participate in Team Conferences, Parent Group Meetings & Workshops and any related Program Activity
  • Coordinates/screens/tracks Child Assessments for ACS; Conducts ACS Pre-screenings of Providers; Ensures ACS/CACFP compliance
  • Coordinates home visits/activities of the FCC Specialists
  • Responsibility may include any other pertinent activity to ensure Program Compliance 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Human Services, Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Ability to make independent decisions and exercise judgment in analyzing problems and determining correct procedures to be followed
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel with the ability to keep current and adapt to changing environments and new technologies

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms. Physical and PPD clearance required. The ability to regularly to bend, stoop, kneel and crawl.
