Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Medical Billing Manager, the Medical Billing Specialist will be responsible for processing claims for participants in the agency’s Developmental Disabilities, Foster Care and Mental Health programs. The Medical Billing Specialist will ensure that the agency accurately captures client billing information and processes that information through New York State Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care companies, and other insurance companies. 

  • The position will enter data into the following services:
    • Millin, MyEvolve, MDLand, and IMA
  • Upload remits into software and save files in the financial drive weekly.
  • Troubleshoot denied claim(s) and rebill when necessary.
  • Together with medical billing manger, provide billing report(s) to senior staff and enter revenue into the Financial Edge accounting application.
  • Serve as day-to-day liaison to agency’s third-party billing company
  • Submit weekly billing through various billing software. 
  • Work directly with Medicaid, insurance companies, Sheltering Arms’ program staff to get claims processed and paid.
  • Download and post remittances into the various billing systems and provide Cash Receipts in Excel format to accounting for posting into the General Ledger.
  • Assist in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Other duties as needed

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree plus three years relevant administrative experience. 
  • At least three years of experience in billing Medicaid Managed care claims for behavioral health services.
  • At least three years of experience with eMedNY.
  • Strong Excel skills including VLookup and Pivot Tables. 
  • Experience using insurance web portals and familiarity with the life cycle of insurance claim(s).
