Sheltering Arms is seeking a Fatherhood Specialist for our Early Childhood Education Program. The overall intent of the Fatherhood Program is to support families and to benefit children’s learning and development. The role of the Fatherhood Specialist is to engage fathers and male father figures to work with the program staff as partners to promote their child’s best interest, and to support successful child outcomes. In addition, the Fatherhood Specialist will work with fathers and their families to establish family goals that are motivating, fulfilling and that will help to enhance their quality of life. The Fatherhood Specialist will link fathers and refer to supportive services and will maintain records and track outcomes.

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for engaging parents in workshops/training to promote successful engagement of Fathers and to encourage increased involvement in their child’s overall development. 
  • Provide Professional Development to support the ECE staff, in the areas of communication, engagement and essential support to Fathers.
  • Conduct focus groups, workshops and trainings that support fathers in developing their own skills and interests and in achieving their personal goals.
  • Maintain records and statistical reports on enrolled fathers, group minutes, notes, activities, and individual progress towards their goals.
  • Implement Fatherhood curriculum based on parenting, social/emotional dealing with self, communications and relationships men’s health, finances.
  • Work closely with the Mental Health Consultant and the Education Coordinator to assess the impact of father’s involvement in children’s growth in social–emotional development, and academic performance in the areas of literacy, mathematics and problem solving skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sheltering Arms Quality Improvement Department to collect data to determine the impact on child outcomes.
  • Collaborate with community resources to provide comprehensive services to help foster, responsible parenting, job and career advancement activities and healthy relationships and marriage education services.
  • Link and refer fathers for additional supportive services and track outcomes.
  • Engage in community outreach and networking with other fatherhood programs to develop partnerships to enhance services provided by the program.

 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Sociology or related field
  • 1-2 years of prior experience working with families
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Two years experience working in a group setting with children and families
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering. Physical and PPD clearance required.
