We are seeking a Development Associate to support the External Affairs team at Sheltering Arms – one of the City’s longest serving non-profit organizations. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent college graduate to put their skills to work while assisting in certain events and campaigns vital to the organization’s continued growth. This role will manage the administrative operations of the External Affairs team, support the expansion our city-wide corporate and community volunteering programs and will play a key role in the execution of our annual holiday drive and Spring fundraising event.

You’ll be joining at an exciting time for Sheltering Arms, as we continue to significantly increase our child welfare, foster care, and juvenile justice programming. We serve nearly 20,000 people a year from the South Bronx to Far Rockaway. Responsibilities

  • Support the Development team on priority fundraising proposals and management of Salsa Labs, our supporter CRM system.
  • Maintain accurate data entry, reconciliation and reporting for development and volunteer records
  • Prepare donor reports and list selections from Salsa for mailings, appeals, communications and events
  • Answer donor questions regarding individual giving, online giving, and special events.
  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgment letters and other correspondence.
  • Draft correspondence to existing donors and work with key stakeholders to solicit annual gifts.
  • Conduct research on current and prospective donors to determine their philanthropic interests and capacity
  • Assist the Development team through comprehensive data management and tracking of volunteer and stewardship activities
  • Respond to and maintain relationships with prospective volunteers
  • Plan and logistically support corporate volunteer and fundraising events, as well as seasonal campaigns.
  • Receive and manage in-kind donation requests to the organization
  • Other associated tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Experience working in an office environment is required.
  • Excellent, proven written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to rapidly learn, improve, and respond to feedback.
  • Additional ability to collaborate well in a team
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with Salsa Labs or similar CRM system is a plus
  • An intersectional understanding of social issues facing the City’s high-need communities.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
