Development Associate

We are seeking a Development Associate to support the External Affairs team at Sheltering Arms – one of the City’s longest serving non-profit organizations. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent college graduate to put their skills to work while assisting in certain events and campaigns vital to the organization’s continued growth. This role will manage the administrative operations of the External Affairs team, support the expansion our city-wide corporate and community volunteering programs and will play a key role in the execution of our annual holiday drive and Spring fundraising event.

We serve nearly 20,000 people a year from the South Bronx to Far Rockaway. Job Summary:

Sheltering Arms Children and Family Services is seeking a Development Associate with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills to support our fundraising efforts.  As a key member of the Development team, you will play a critical role in securing the resources needed to serve New York City’s highest need children, families, and communities.  You will partner with committed team members from across Sheltering Arms to assist with special events and volunteer management, and to provide general development support.

Responsibilities:

Events:

  • Effectively execute and engage individual and corporate donors in all aspects of special events including Annual Gala, cultivation activities, and stewardship events
  • Assist in the overall planning and logistics of all events including timelines and work plans, budget management, cultivation and retention of event participants, preparation of materials, solicitation of corporate sponsorships, pre-and post-event follow up, and committee management
  • Oversee coordination of vendor deliverables including event materials, caterers, entertainment, audio-visual, and consultants
  • Track and manage table sales, ticket sales and event sponsorships
  • Develop and coordinate post-event evaluation to include return on investment analysis, to ensure continued financial success of events

Volunteer Management:

  • In collaboration with program staff, develop volunteer activities and in-kind donation opportunities based on the needs of our programs
  • Collect and maintain data regarding volunteer engagement and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders for the purpose of broader engagement
  • Ensure development staff are at all volunteer events to train volunteers, provide agency overview, plan and execute activities, and oversee all aspects of the event
  • Create a calendar of potential volunteer events to share with prospective volunteers
  • Coordinate and execute Winter Wonders, our annual holiday toy drive, in collaboration with our corporate donors and agency program staff

General Development Support:

  • Manage Salsa, our current CRM, and our migration to new CRM
  • Prepare and process acknowledgement letters, invoices, and other documents.  Process and coordinate with Finance department donations, pledges, and grant payments
  • Oversee preparation of donor reports and list selections from Salsa for mailings, appeals, communications, reporting, and events
  • Create and keep up to date templates for all donor communications
  • Draft solicitation and stewardship correspondence to existing and prospective donors

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-focused, highly organized professional with the ability to work well under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communications skills are essential
  • Experience successfully creating and maintaining processes for volunteer and donor engagement, tracking in-kind donations, event revenue and expenses, and others as needed
  • A high level of computer literacy and experience using with Salsa or other CRMs
  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in a volunteer or special events related role

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs.
