Sheltering Arms is seeking a Domestic Violence Specialist to work Full Time with the General Preventive and Family Rehabilitation Programs to support victims of Domestic Violence and promote trust and communication between the client and the Case Planner as the cases proceeds through the Child Welfare system. The DV Specialist will observe barriers to services and group outcomes to assure that all DV requirements of the Child Welfare system are met in order to ensure children’s safety as well as compliance with quality practice guidelines that are in accordance with Child Welfare, OCFS and agency standards and policies.

 

Essential Functions

  • The Domestic Violence Specialist works with the client and Case Planner around developing safety plans, identifying the services and resources needed for the client and ensuring appropriate follow up such as legal, immigration and housing support.
  • Assists the client in obtaining orders of protection and entering domestic violence shelters.
  • Escort clients to court, hospitals, and shelters or connect them to legal representation.
  • Conduct home visits with Case Planners on cases where Domestic violence is present.
  • Documents notes in Connections and data in Promis.
  • Conduct Domestic Violence Psycho Educational Groups and Individual sessions.
  • Keeps up to date logs for DV group sessions, safety planning sessions, and Domestic Violence Screening Forms.
  • Gather and present information and training programs regarding domestic violence issues.
  • Collaborates with community based organizations that specialize in Domestic Violence and abuse; maintains referrals for victims and staff. This would include support groups, counselors, financial assistance counselors and others who are involved in the support of Domestic Violence victims.
  • For Court ordered supervision cases, the Domestic Violence Specialist will work with the Probation and Court Service departments to inform, update, educate and support their efforts with cases we jointly serve.
  • Participate in Family Team Conferences as a consultant to address DV issues and help develop follow up actions required by the agency.
  • Maybe required to cover Saturday events related to DV community trainings.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field
  • At least three years experience in Child Welfare and work affiliated with Domestic Violence population required
  • Candidates must be Fluent in Spanish
  • Strong communication, verbal and written skills
