Staff Accountant

Job Summary:  Primary responsibilities include assisting the Accounting department, primarily in the areas of maintenance and execution of General Accounting, which includes but is not limited to Journal Entry preparation; Cash Receipts; Accounts Analysis & Reconciliation. 

Essential Functions

  • Recording of electronic banking transactions into the financial system-general ledger for selected accounts, which includes analysis and preparation of journal entries.
  • Assist with recording of cash receipts including live checks on a daily basis.
  • Reconciliation and recording of exchange account transactions for monthly credit card charges.
  • Preparation of journal entries to record payroll benefit payments, 403b and union dues.
  • Monthly analysis, reconciliation and re-classification of prepaid expenses including cash advances.
  • Serve as back-up for Accounts Receivable in the areas payments posting and reconciliations.
  • Monthly Bank reconciliation for selected accounts.
  • Prepares ad hoc journal entries upon request.
  • Assist with account analysis and schedules for annual fiscal & program audits.
  • Special projects as assigned by Assistant Controller and/or AP Supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent experience).
  • 2 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Prior Knowledge of non-profit accounting (preferred)
  • Experience with Blackbaud/Financial Edge General Ledger system. (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in computerized accounts payable/general accounting systems and Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
