Job Summary
Sheltering Arms seeks a Program Director who will oversee the administration, management and operation of two hard-to-place group homes for foster care youth. The Program Director provides overall leadership and ensure that program implementation is consistent with Sheltering Arms mission, best practices in the field, as well as programmatic objectives and descriptive guidelines. This position requires a motivated, energetic individual that will oversee the quality of services to children and families. The ideal candidate must demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills as well as a strong sensitivity to cultural differences.


Essential Functions

  • Supervise facility Site Directors regularly and provides ongoing training, coaching and supervision.
  • Provide clinical supervision to mental health therapists.
  • Provide oversight of social work supervisor and case planning staff.
  • Supervise PYA Specialist and Educational/Vocational Specialist assigned to group home youth.
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Clinically review all intake referrals and interview all potential residents for appropriateness of placement.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and ensure compliance for training requirements for all staff.
  • Implement agency policies and procedures
  • Adhere to mandates and regulations regarding the care, upkeep and safety of the facilities
  • Collaborate with agency departments to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that records are accurate and complete in compliance with city, state, & agency regulations
  • Oversee program quality and evaluation
  • Enhance existing services
  • Develop new treatment components to meet client needs
  • Other related task that may be assigned



  • MSW or equivalent degree
  • LMSW required, LCSW Preferred
  • Prior experience working in residential care for youth and young adults
  • 5 years experience in program implementation and development, management, budgeting, and recruiting and evaluations
  • 3 to 4 years in the provision of direct care with older youth, youth development, and activities programming
  • Knowledge of city, state, and agency regulations and child welfare policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
