Job Summary

Sheltering Arms is currently seeking Director of Residential Homes. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Services, Director of Residential Homes will provide programmatic, administrative, fiscal and operational oversight of two 12 bed residences and one 20 bed crisis shelter.    

Essential Functions

  • Manage (2) 12-bed transitional residences and (1) 20 bed crisis shelter for homeless, high risk youth
  • Supervise two program supervisors, 2 social workers and 2 case managers
  • Prepare monthly program reports for internal and external entities
  • Write quarterly and annual reports for federal and state funding sources 
  • Oversee program expenditures and manage budget
  • Lead staff meetings and trainings
  • Schedule house meetings and groups and workshops for residences 
  • Maintain compliance with funding and licensing agencies and track outcomes
  • Serve as a liaison between residences and the community through block association and community board meetings
  • Complete all reporting for DYCD and OCFS
  • Ensure maximum occupancy of all three programs and track utilization rates
  • Ensure positive youth development approach are interwoven in all services
  • Train staff to support residents in the acquisition of independent life skills
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or similar degree, and at least 5 years’ experience in related field preferred with 1 to 2 years in supervisory role 
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining community partnerships.
  • Knowledge of and history with Jamaica community strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and history working with at risk youth and providing services consistent with positive youth development approach preferred
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
  • Experience working with HIV+ and LGBTQ communities
  • Ability to work evenings and an occasional weekend
