Social Worker - Mental Health Coordinator

The Social Worker – Mental Health Coordinator will work closely with a team of specialized service providers at JHS 022 in order to provide mental health assessments and treatment to students and their families. He/she will liaise with JHS 022 faculty and the in-house team to provide interventions and participate in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) to ensure that the clinical and psycho-educational needs of students are being met. Clinical intervention will be grounded in the clinical model of youth development, using a strengths-based approach. The social worker will maintain clear and consistent communication with the principal, school faculty, school-based support team, students and their parents.


Essential Functions:

  • Conducts intake and orientation activities with students and their families
  • Provides direct individual and group therapy to students
  • Assesses program needs in order to develop group workshops 
  • Complete students’ psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and case notes to ensure continuity of care
  • Attend school-based support team meetings and provides in-service training to school faculty as needed
  • Conducts home visits as needed; provides linkage and referrals to support services
  • Support school guidance counselors with case conferencing and creating school wide campaigns
  • Ability to provide traditional and non-traditional PD’s for school staff and parents are a plus.
  • Connect with school staff, parents, local community vendors(budget will be provided for group snacks and meals) and outside providers who will facilitate programs in the school under the individuals guidance and support
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) and LCSW certification required (Open to LMSW but LCSW preferred)
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a school setting
  • Experience facilitating traditional, non-traditional, and group sessions with adolescents
  • Must be highly organized, creative, independent, self-starter with critical thinking skills
  • SIFI certification preferred but must be obtained within three months to retain employment
  • Understanding of client insurance billing
  • Experience conducting individual and group counseling
  • Knowledge of DSM-TR  Criteria
  • Strong communication, organizational and behavior management skills
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to work in a team in a variety of environments
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs.
