Job Summary: Reporting to the Controller and CFO, the Budget Manger will join a highly proficient and dedicated finance team in order to support the various program offerings at Sheltering Arms by way of managing, maintaining, modifying, and assessing budgets. With the majority of funding awarded from government grants and contracts, the Budget Manager is a key stakeholder in the operations of our programs and serves as a vital link between the Finance Department and Program Management.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget-by department and program by
  • Develop schedules necessary for inputting budget data into Financial Edge
  • Meet with program staff on budget implementation
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports comparing budget to the actual
  • Compiling data, assessing trends, and providing feedback to program stakeholders.
  • Identify issues requiring review by senior finance and program staff
  • Undertake specific assignments designed to improve the efficiency of Sheltering Arms operations
  • Prepare cash flow reports on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Work with Development and Program staff in preparation of budgets for specific RFP or grant request applications
  • Diligently following up on all outstanding receivables.
  • Carry out special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Related Field
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • At least 4 years of prior experience with not-for-profit
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office, Financial Edge or other related budget software
  • Ability to perform in fast-paced, project-management type environment.
  • Prior budgeting experience in a large setting is a plus
  • Must be a team player
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms.
