Director of Early Childhood Education

Job Summary: The Director of Early Childhood Education programs as part of the Early Childhood Education management team provides ongoing oversight of all Early Childhood Education programs at Sheltering Arms including Birth to Five, Universal Pre-K, 3K, Early Head Start, Head Start and Family Child Care. The Director ensures all statutory and regulatory requirements are met and all required licenses are up to date for all Sheltering Arms Early Childhood Education centers. Additionally, the Director develops and maintains quality standards of early childhood education designed to meet the educational, emotional, physical, social needs of individual children and the group.

Essential Functions

  • Provide the overall management of all licensing for Sheltering Arms Early Childhood Education centers and the Family Child Care program.
  • Effectively manage and supervise all Educational Directors, the Assistant Director of Early Childhood Education, the Director of Family Child Care program and the Manager of Fatherhood Program.
  • Work closely with the agency Quality Improvement team to develop program outcomes and ensures that the programs meet contractual goals.
  • Ensure that all programs run in compliance with DOE, DOI, OCFS, ACS, and Early Learn mandates and regulations.
  • Work effectively with the Educational Directors to recruit and maintain adequate staffing at all of the Early Childhood Education centers and the Family Child Care program.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing productive communication with the community, stakeholders, parents, and other professionals.
  • Conduct frequent site visits to ensure program compliance and high standards of service.
  • Build lasting relationships with the parents in the program to assess needs, provide available information, and accurate solutions to inquiries.
  • Work closely with staff to prepare, evaluate and implement curriculum
  • Ensure that Educational Directors are working with teachers to ensure that all classrooms are safe, attractive, and developmentally appropriate
  • Work closely with the Human Resources department to effectively conduct investigations and/or handle employee grievances.
  • Conduct evaluations and provide ongoing recommendations for improved services.
  • Conduct in-house training and serve as a mentor to staff.
  • Participate in professional development in order to maintain best practices and stay abreast of updates in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Certified Teacher in Early Childhood Education
  • 5+ years of experience in Early Childhood Education administration
  • 2+ years of experience as Director in Day Cares, Early Intervention, Early Head Start, Head Start, or Therapeutic Nursery
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite as well as industry standard technologies
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • First Aid and CPR trainings required and recertified as needed
