Assistant Controller

Sheltering Arms is looking for an Assistant Controller for the Finance Department. The person taking on this role will be responsible for the general accounting process, as well as the preparation and analysis of monthly trial balances and financial reports; Directing work of staff responsible for payroll, accounts payable, disbursements and collection processes; Review the accuracy of bi-weekly payroll; Manage the Agency’s insurance program.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Preparation of weekly cash flow schedule for meeting with CFO
  • Oversee monthly bank reconciliations of all accounts and all bank deposits
  • Review work of staff responsible for cash receipts, accounts payable disbursements and Medicaid billings
  • Preparation of analyses for various balance sheet accounts including:  prepaid and deferred charges, accrued liabilities, interfund balances, security deposits and miscellaneous accounts receivable
  • Maintain fixed assets schedule and prepare monthly depreciation journal entry
  • Prepare monthly journal entries to record revenue and accounts receivables
  • Managing banking operations including opening / closing accounts, changing authorized signers, etc.
  • Use online business banking for balance inquires, wires and other transfers
  • Assist in submitting schedules and supporting documentation requested by independent public accountants in connection with year-end and government audits.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
  • Assist in preparation of SOP and CFR reports
  • Annual preparation of 1099s and filings
  • Maintain accounting software for new accounts, cost centers

Qualifications and Skills

  • BS/BA in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems, ADP payroll, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud a plus
