Sheltering Arms is seeking a  Health Services Coordinator who will work to ensure the health of all children entering and currently enrolled in Head Start.  They will conduct medical intake prior to entry to the program and works with the children’s own physician and dentist.  The Health Services Coordinator documents and keeps up with case records to meet Head Start standards.  They will be responsible for building positive relationships with the children and their families to ensure their health.  The ideal candidate has experience with children and strong attention to detail.

 

Essential Functions

  • Facilitates the ability of families to assume primary responsibility for their own and their child’s health care through the selection of appropriate health care providers and resources.
  • Maintain medical records, dental records, and establish policies and procedures internally to ensure the confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Reviews medical/dental forms to ensure that all information is recorder and that participant’s physician/dentist has conducted the necessary examination for entrance into the program
  • Ensures that all children’s immunizations are up-to-date
  • Discusses any medical concerns the parents may have
  • To update and maintain accurate data tracking in accordance with the program requirements
  • Maintains an accurate log of all service rendered to the program
  • Provides parents with community resources and referrals as needed to meet their ongoing medical care
  • Builds responsive trusting relationship with each child in their care
  • Provides support to parents in their role as primary caregiver
  • Ethical in all dealings with children, families and community representatives
  • Respects privacy and confidentiality of children and parents
  • Travels to and from day care locations throughout the city to provide services.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services or related field preferred, High School Diploma + Nursing Program and 2+ years of experience required
  • LPN required
  • Able to provide own travel arrangements preferred
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred
  • Prior experience working with pediatric populations, especially early childhood
  • Bilingual/Spanish preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • First Aid and CPR trainings required and recertified as needed
