The Outreach Worker connects with community organizations to recruit participants for the Family Support Service programs at Sheltering Arms.  Sites include Far Rockaway, Liberty, Jamaica and the Bronx (on some occasions).  The outreach worker will work out of the various sites as the need arises.  The outreach worker provides program promotion with the main goal of recruiting clients, conducting street outreach; distribution of Preventive materials; representing the Preventive programs at community health fairs and related events. The outreach worker will receive trainings to learn how to use enhanced outreach strategies to reach those who may be at risk of excess stressors that may lead to abuse or neglect of child/ren, substance use, Domestic Violence and other life issues causing the need for supportive Preventive services.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct monthly outreach activities (schools, hospitals, daycare, parks, ACS Borough offices and other local community based organizations) that educate and heighten awareness of Sheltering Arms preventive programs and services offered.
  • Conduct outreach with individuals, groups, and community organizations to educate and inform about FSS services.
  • Participate in community forums, networks, and coalitions on behalf of the FSS programs.
  • Lead and participate in outreach strategy sessions at each site.
  • Outreach Event planning and organizing materials for events.
  • Track and document Outreach activities to FSS Division Director and Site Admins.
  • Maintain logs/binders of monthly Outreach data.
  • Canvass community settings to target prospective clients at various community based organizations.
  • Complete required number of staff training hours as assigned.
  • Assist with managing and tracking the intake logs for the various sites assigned.
  • Utilization of the State system Connections and PROMIS.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three years of experience in child welfare and family services required
  • Experience with at risk population preferred
  • Non-judgmental approach and ability to empathize with others; Genuine interest in working with disenfranchised individuals; Self-motivation skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple demands on attention
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
