Mental Health Therapist

The Mental Health Therapist will be working as a team member and coach to Juvenile Specialist staff, participate in Service Plan Reviews, facility community meetings and interacts with the youth and the Juvenile Specialists in the Girls Limited Secure or SED Limited Secure Program. The LSP Therapist will have regular therapeutic involvement with their assigned youth and families using established methods of the Integrative Treatment Model to engage them and will meet with the youth and parents/permanency resource for regular sessions as proposed by the Treatment team. The LSP therapist will receive cross training on STAIR-A and Think Trauma models as well as having familiarity with MST-FIT model used in aftercare.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides therapy services for youth, families & resources in accordance best clinical practice; lobbies energetically for the appropriate services for the youth both in individual and group capacities.
  • Ensures the timely completion of assessments and treatment plan progress.
  • Participates in facility‚Äôs Treatment team meetings
  • Ensures efficacious treatment planning and service coordination in collaboration with internal and external resources
  • Receives and reviews planned placement referrals and where necessary makes specialist referrals
  • Develops creative strategies for involving family members in the service planning process
  • Assists youth and Juvenile Specialists with crisis intervention and resolution including Safety Plans.
  • Supports the ideology and practice of ITM, STAIR-A, Think Trauma, and MST-FIT Model principles.
  • Instrumental in providing formal and informal training for youth, families and Juvenile Counselors. 
  • Conducts workshops for youth and staff
  • Models and promotes dependable, responsible, professional and accountable behavior including positive program norms, enthusiasm, and teamwork primacy
  • Addresses and discourages negative behaviors in youth while promoting positive behaviors
  • Provides substance abuse support services as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • LMSW, LMHC, LCAT or LCSW required
  • Familiarity with Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Strengths-Based Therapy
  • 2+ Years experience in Child Welfare
  • Experiencing working with youth and families in Residential setting preferred
  • Knowledge of CONNECTIONS and Microsoft Office Suite
