Outreach Specialist (CPP)

JOB SUMMARY:  The Outreach Worker connects with community organizations throughout Queens to recruit participants for the CPP program at Sheltering Arms.  The outreach worker provides program promotion with the main goal of recruiting clients, conducting street outreach; distribution of CPP materials; representing the CPP program at community health fairs and related events. The outreach worker will receive training to learn how to use enhanced outreach strategies to reach those who may be at risk of excess stressors that may lead to abuse or neglect of child/ren, substance use, domestic violence and other life issues causing the need for supportive CPP services.


  • Conduct monthly outreach activities (schools, hospitals, daycare, parks, ACS Borough offices and other local community based organizations) that educate and heighten awareness of Sheltering Arms CPP program and services offered. 
  • Conduct outreach with individuals, groups, and community organizations to educate and inform about CPP services, as well as provide information on other agency programs and facilitate appropriate referrals to other programs. 
  • Participate in community forums, networks, and coalitions on behalf of the CPP programs.
  • Lead and participate in outreach strategy sessions at each site.
  • Outreach Event planning and organizing materials for events. 
  • Track and document Outreach activities to CPP Division Director and CPP Director.
  • Maintain logs/binders of monthly Outreach data. 
  • Canvass community settings to target prospective clients at various community based organizations. 
  • Conduct parenting workshops in schools, hospitals, daycare etc. 
  • Complete required number of staff training hours as assigned.
  • Assist with managing and tracking the intake logs for the various sites assigned.
  • Utilization of the State system Connections and PROMIS.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CPP Director.


  • Bachelor's Degree (Masters degree welcomed)
  • Experience with at risk population preferred
  • Non-judgmental approach and ability to empathize with others; Genuine interest in working with disenfranchised individuals; Self-motivation skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple demands on attention
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.


Experience:  Three years of experience in child welfare and family services required including ability to discuss the parameters of services offered by the CPP program and to provide complete and accurate timely written reports. Child welfare practice experience a plus; thorough working knowledge of ACS preventive services system.


Skills: Must show promising professional competence through good professional references and a stable work history. Excellent interpersonal communication; Demonstrated commitment to family-centered child welfare service delivery and Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, walk, and handle objects, reach, talk, and listen. May occasionally be required to lift and or move objects during group sessions.
