About the Program: Rapid Rehousing for Young Adults is a solution to homelessness designed to help young adults aged 18-24 quickly exit homelessness to permanent housing. The program provides rental assistance and services that are tailored to the unique needs of the young person.

Job Summary: The Housing Specialist will develop relationships with landlords, developers and property management companies to secure leases in affordable apartments for youth in the RRH program. The ideal candidate must have a vast knowledge of the NYC housing landscape and active relationship with individuals and entities whom have apartments to rent.

 Essential Functions

  • Develop relationships with potential landlords
  • Consistently seek apartments that are for rent in safe and affordable communities
  • Ensure there is a constant pool of apartment resources
  • Locate affordable apartments for youth to rent
  • Secure leases for homeless youth in their own name and often more than one name
  • Act as a liaison between landlords and youth once they move into the apartments
  • Conduct apartment inspections and ensure compliance with funder mandates
  • Participate in weekly team meetings
  • On-call for emergencies and crisis
  • Other related tasks as assigned


  • License as a Real Estate Broker or License as a Real Agent working under the license of a Licensed Real Estate Broker
  • Knowledge of housing options and programs available required
  • Experience working with youth preferred
  • Excellent negotiate and persuasion skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes late evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed
